The Voyager is the only analogue synth in my studio, which can do this and it delivers amazing sounds. MatrixBrute 2.0 Firmware is available now! "Syncing the sequencer on the Sequential Pro 3 to an Arturia MatrixBrute arpeggiator, a Moog MF-101 Low Pass Filter processes a Pro 3 oscillator output through a CV out. One Matrixbrute osc phase-locks all three waveshapes. The MatrixBrute gives you the sonic quality and power of a vast modular synthesizer but with the flexibility of presets along with a great arpeggiator and an advanced sequencer. I like the extra octave of keys, and as it won’t be gigged, the tolex should hold up and I like it over the wood grain in this case. The Tolex Voyager XL is supposedly “limited edition” - I quite like it although most prefer the “classic” look on the XL with the wood. Arturia have had quite a journey from the early days of pushing their cartoonish Storm music making software on to somehow persuading Moog to let them do the virtual version of their classic synths, through to their recent and very successful foray into hardware analogue synthesis. The harmonics on the Sub37 aren't exactly in tune with the fundamental. Quote from: Flux302 on September 25, 2016, 05:43:59 PM Matrixbrute is way better for patching and eurorack imo. Experimented with it for 2 hours tonight. A real Brute, with 2 VCOs, 2 LFOs, Steiner-VCF, sequencer / arpeggiator and a respectable modulation matrix (CV-panel). It does this at a price point well below the Minimoog as well, making it potentially very popular for working musicians. Annoyances? I like the Matrixbrute sequencer but it’s not essential as I have enough of that elsewhere. The menu has some important functions under the hood, but easy enough to find and use. Often both patches made great sounds, but differently enough, to make both synths a keeper. All synths named can Show off a very ballsy neighbour angering Low end. Wasn’t blown away with the Matrixbrute fx, but they did have some character and interfaced with the matrix. It’s a good, rock solid, and lasting quality. Having the MB since the very beginning, I would say that the most annoying have been fixed. The MatrixBrute seems like the pinnacle of that evolutionary arc. With the demise of the Moog Voyager in favour of the reboot of the MiniMoog, there are secondhand Voyagers out there for similar money to the MatrixBrute – and again, these are synths that are built like tanks and will last for years, if cared for. Combining them in the mixing section of the osc leads to phase related effects like extinction of certain frequencies or a kind of beating. Es sieht aus wie der Moog Voyager Kühler Geschwister. It’s this stuff (wave shaping insights) that you don’t really get to know unless spending solid amounts of time with an instrument. Arturia’s recent 2.0 firmware update added a long list of well thought-out improvements. Anyway, the Matrixbrute still has to proof that it’s better built than previous Arturia hardware, Tell you, if you do this, you will keep both, If you discover both deeply, you will see that both are complementing each other. Even down to the emulated overdriven sound by the external input feedback trick which is the only emulator, to my knowledge, capable of … Unfortunately the Matrixbrute allows only osc3 to modulate audio-FM directly, but osc3 is limited to the standard waveshapes. Can use the mod matrix as a cv mixer with patch storage. Arturia’s recent firmware update for the MatrtixBrute opens the door to new sequencing capabilities. I did consciously wait sometime after the Matrixbrute came out to see if any common issues popped up, but looking at the Arturia forums, it seems the only glaring issue is slow firmware updates, which I can understand if there are any glitches in the system, speaking of which, have you observed any? It has a lot of options and flexibility, and the oscs sound quite nice. Arturia Mini V2 Perhaps the best known of all the Minimoog emulations is Arturia’s popular Mini V2. thanks for the insights pulsn. Where did you get that done? Many experts say, it’s close enough to make it hard to tell it apart. The Moog Subsequent 25 appears to be a compact, less expensive option than the popular Subsequent 37. Look at the knobs. If think if I had the space (and the cash), I’d get a Matrixbrute. Those are the really cheap rubber ones that should not be on flagship synth like this. Always! And the MatrixBrute is one instrument that'll sweep you off your feet. There is a download on the Moog site for a set of factory presets for the Voyager but this only contains a single bank of 128 sounds and not the full list (8 banks x 128). The Minimonsta comes really, really close. “Ladder” is a buzz word that many believe refers to a Moog sound. The sub oscillator on the Sub37 has an aggressive, buzzy tone (Moogish?) The combination will be perfect. It’s a dream machine, so versatile, so many different tones, so much to discover. Sequencer Jam - Sequential Pro 3, Arturia MatrixBrute, Moog Voyager & MF-101 - ExperimentalSynth Published on Feb 19, 2020 experimentalsynth "Sequential Pro 3 is the MIDI master clock. No, I havn’t … there was no reason until now. I am conscious of the sub37 having some advancements on the Voyager, especially around the overdrive among other things, but I am kinda fixated on a 3 oscillator mono synth, with lfo options on the 3rd osc. The Minimoog V looks like the original Minimoog, and yes, it sounds like it too - minus the noise, instability and other problems associated with analog circuitry. Also considered a couple of Mother32’s but I am quite impressed with the Behringer demos, though its still not available here yet. After a (possibly) too long reply … the sound should be the best criterion to make a decision. Anyway the voyager is selling quite cheap (relatively) so it’s not a big difference price wise between the two. There are some improvements on the wish lists, though. MatrixBrute sequencer is synced to it. I wouldn’t call it limited … it’s the way Moog designed it and the routing of the phones-out to the external-in is as old as the Minimoog Model-D itself. Oh I am really impressed with the paraphonic sounds on the MB. IMO the Matrixbrute is even more versatile. Advantages? Core Sonic Territory - Oscillators and Filters: All three of these synths have you covered for searing analog leads, basses and plucks. There is a download on the Moog site for a set of factory presets for the Voyager but this only contains a single bank of 128 sounds and not the full list (8 banks x 128). Filter 2 is a modified Moog-style ladder filter that retains low-end at high resonance settings. It also makes a difference, if an osc in sync mode can change it’s waveshape smoothly. I got the sub phatty and didn't love the sound of it and its the same sound engine. Here is an exploration of the sound, construction, and application of some of the patches in a soundbank Marc Doty made for the Arturia MatrixBrute. The FX are indeed unique, that radiophonic workshop soul. To have both is a luxury … but it feels sooooo gooooood. Sound? The current Sub line of products seems unreliable in comparison, with a lot of people having problems with screens, potentiometers and more. But the filters section is a bit of a letdown, the filters aren't too character full, they just subtract from the sound rather than add, there's the brute factor but that goes into unpredictable squeeling character pretty fast. There are some minor flaws, like the rocker switches, which I would call manufactured suboptimal and sloppy. This is great too create sounds, but completly different compared to the Voyager, again. Am thinking with either synth that a Boog D would be combined. That tells a bit of quality. Thank you for purchasing the Arturia MatrixBrute! But that’s personal preference only. It has some Moogy character but it’s its own thing (an asset, not a downside). It's the new analog synthesizer from Arturia. But the filters section is a bit of a letdown, the filters aren't too character full, they just subtract from the sound rather than add, there's the brute factor but that goes into unpredictable squeezing character pretty fast. The MatrixBrute is a programmable monophonic / duophonic analog synthesizer, outfitted with three ‘Brute’ oscillators, Steiner-Parker and ladder filters, three envelope generators, analogue effects and a matrix-style modulation matrix. I have tried the Matrixbrute, was quite impressed with the bottom end, but haven’t had the chance with the Voyager, and especially not the xl patchbay. Both are very flexible in terms of modulation options. It basically comes down to what one is aiming for sonically (after all, a Voyager, a Pro 2, and a MatrixBrute all sound different), and whether the analog vs digital debate plays any role. In Stock Available immediately! It took me a little while to get Interestingly, the PRO 3 can get a bit closer with it’s … I've had the sub37 for about a year and the MxB a couple weeks. The waveshapers in the Matrixbrute are great and open new sonic territory compared to the Voyager. I'm a huge Moog aficionado so was really drawn to the Sub-37 (I actually tried the Sub Phatty prior, but didn't gel with it). Having done so, I used the software to set up the MatrixBrute’s MIDI parameters (all of which are, I think, self-evident from their names) as well as a handful of detailed parameters: pedal responses, the knob mode, the velocity curve and whether the sequencer and arpeggiator send notes via MIDI. Posted by matrix at 2/28/2020 09:59:00 AM. Adding a Boog is not necessary btw. All of them are useful, but one that really caught my eye is Create your Own LFO (CYOLFO). Arturia later released an updated edition of the MicroBrute, the MicroBrute SE, which featured an updated Sub-Oscillator and step sequencer design . I dig the Moog sound… but I like flexibility moreso… you reconfirm my suspicions about the Mbrute having more variety of tone. Even down to the emulated overdriven sound by the external input feedback trick which is the only emulator, to my knowledge, capable of … It’s great to have the options and it’s fun to explore and use them, but it’s not a must have for this price … considering that the same functionality can be added to any standard Voyager for less money. The sweet spots were too few and too narrow. @spikysimon Seriously one of the most impressive looking ‘instruments’ I have set eyes on. So if I dial up two saws on both synths with the filters open and play a note and tune the fundamentals with a tuner, and then play them together and tune them to each other by ear, I need to sharpen the Sub37 significantly (maybe 1/4 tone) to get the highest harmonics in tune with the MxB. Space I have, and I need the exercise as I don’t own a 50 pound Model 15 to build biceps with. (separate reply for sounds comparisons, the previous being more of a tech tip). Enough woody Moog awesomeness in there for my taste. The Voyager is a Moog, has the heritage of the Minimoog, and sounds like a Moog. On the Matrixbrute is more headroom until the crazyness happens. Especially that patchbay – placed in an ideal position at the top – should arouse the interest of analog enthusiasts and modular users. … are any glitches in the system, speaking of which, have you observed any? It's a mixed response. It also has LP/HP/BP modes and 2/4-pole slopes but to my ears (and when comparing to my Moog Source and Voyager) it’s definitely rawer and more textured. Just as a suggestion … for the money you have to pay for a Voyager XL you can buy a Matrixbrute and a Sub 37 and have about a grand less to pay. Some trivia: I find it funny that Axel Hartmann had to pull back the Arturia team so that the MatrixBrute wouldn't look like a Voyager in the end. MatrixBrute is a … From the list of issues that that are attributed to the chip failure are; Mod buss no longer functional and Source/Destination assignment no longer functional. The wav shaping tools on the Brute possibly balance out in some way though and I will check if can modulate oscillator volumes to fake crossfade waveforms to some degree as I have done on other synths. Yep, those 3 (S-37, MB & D1) are so neck n neck in a lot of ways as modern mono synths, yet each also manages to go there own way (in a big way) to distinguish and differentiate sonically. All of them are useful, but one that really caught my eye is Create your Own LFO (CYOLFO). It looks black & monstrous. This is for me one of the most important features I love on the Voyager. I recently did the Slew Rate mod for £75 (or so) here in London to give it a bit more bite with the filter fully open… it makes a difference for sure, particularly if you are after more of a Model D sound. The filter-FM is quite responsive to the waveshape of osc 3. That is, what I would miss on a Minimoog Model-D and on a Sub 37. Moog Matriarch vs Moog Grandmother. It has a lot of options and flexibility, and the oscs sound quite nice. If there was a rackable Sub37 then the decision would be harder. Resonance is meh, even the ladder filter's goes from broken up in to tinny scream quite quickly, not much sweet spot. Es ist das neue Analog-Synthesizer von Arturia. A Pro 3 oscillator is sent out its audio-rate CV post and filtered by the MF-101. Yes I'm finding it had to get my head around the difference between control voltage and audio signals. Let's take a look at a blow by blow comparison of features of these three Moog synths: To get rid of that you really need to Work hard for it. On top of this, I’ll run a number of CV connections between the MatrixBrute and Pro 2 and/or to other synths like a MicroBrute, Moog Voyager or Little Phatty. Let's hope this is better and that those knobs were just in the demo version. I would describe its general sound as very melodic, harmonic, friendly, deep, and you can try as you want, you can’t get it really angry or dirty, if compared to, let’s say, an ARP Odyssey, or a MicroBrute. I disagree with the Moog having a far better built quality. Cross fading oscillator shapes on the Voyager are one of the big appeals.
